This kit increases the cylinder bore from 67mm to 71 mm and the stroke from 70mm to 82mm giving a total capacity of 973 cc. Peak power occurs at approximately 6750 r.p.m. and there is a great increase at low and mid-range engine speeds, giving a tremendous spread of power and torque. Most riders get a substantial petrol consumption reduction.The new cylinder barrel is cast in a high strength aluminium alloy and is heat treated.The new cast iron cylinder liners will accept rebores up to 0•040¨ (1 mm) and feature a short spigot which fits through the head gasket. When the cylinder head is torqued down the top of this spigot comes very close to it and so serves to reduce the pressure trying to leak accross the gasket. This gives a much more secure joint than the standard engine.The long stroke is created by building up the big end journals by a sophisticated welding technique and then re-grinding them in a new position. To ensure perfect straightness the centre main journals are re-ground. All cranks are crack tested and machined to correct the balance factor.
