Quick Overview

Have you ever wondered why a T140 has little power below 5000 r.p.m., whilst T120s ‘go’from 2000 r.p.m.? The answer is that when the T140 engine was being developed in 1971/2, the extra torque that it was producing caused premature failure of the welded cage T/S main ball bearing that was being fitted. To overcome this, the torque was deliberately reduced by use of a full race inlet cam profile. (The standard T140 inlet cam, with its followers, gives the valves the same lift curve as the Thruxton Spitfire cams and their large foot followers). A low lift exhaust cam then restricted the power output. Our half race cams feature the same lift as the Tl40 inlet cam (.350"), but the shape is based on the E3134 profile that was used in all sporting 650cc engines. The result is not only good top end power, but also a tremendous increase in the 2-5,000 r.p.m. band so making the bike that much more enjoyable to drive. They use the original followers and timing marks.
